Water Spot Removal
in Elk Grove, CA

Those white dots on your doors and windows are minerals left behind by sprinklers and hard water. We remove them from paint and glass, then add protection so the next round has a harder time sticking.

The driveway sprinkler problem

Many Elk Grove homes in Laguna, Laguna West, East Franklin and the newer subdivisions have lawns right next to the driveway. Sprinklers run early in the morning, and the edge of the spray lands on whatever is parked there. By mid-morning the sun is up, the water dries, and the minerals stay behind as white rings.

It isn’t only your own sprinklers. A neighbor’s system or a shared HOA lawn along the curb can hit a car parked on the street, too.

Do that a few times a week through a long, hot summer and the side of the car facing the lawn can be covered. Dark SUVs and minivans show it the most, and so do the side windows.

Other places spots come from

Sprinklers are the most common cause, but not the only one:

  • Rinsing the car with a garden hose and letting it air dry in the sun
  • Well water, if your home in a rural area uses one
  • Drips from a roof edge or an air conditioner over a parked car
  • Rain that dries on dusty paint without a wash afterward
  • Coin-op and quick washes that skip the drying step

Our process

Five steps to clear paint and glass.

Catch them early and they wipe off. Wait a summer and they etch in.

01

Hand wash

A careful wash with our own filtered water so we can see the spots clearly.

02

Test a spot

We check whether the spots are fresh, hardened or etched.

03

Remove

Mineral removers made for paint and glass, plus clay where it helps.

04

Inspect in good light

We look for any etching left behind and quote polishing if it’s needed.

05

Protect

A protective layer helps water bead up and roll off.

Fresh, hardened or etched

How hard a spot is to remove depends on how long it has been there. Fresh mineral deposits sit on top and come off with the right cleaner. Spots that have stayed through a few hot weeks harden and bond to the surface, and they need more time and careful work. Spots left long enough can etch into the clear coat or glass. Etched spots look like small craters in the right light and need machine polishing to level out.

We test a small area first, so we know which kind you have before we decide how to treat it. That way you aren’t paying for polishing you don’t need, and we don’t use strong products on spots that come off with something gentler.

Our process, and why we bring our own water

We start with a careful hand wash. Our vans carry their own filtered water, which helps us avoid leaving new mineral spots on the car while we work. After a test spot, we use a mineral remover made for paint and another for glass, plus clay where it helps. Trim and rubber seals get extra care so the products don’t stain them.

Glass gets the same attention. Spotted side windows are hard to see through when the sun is low, and minerals bond straight to glass because it has no clear coat.

When the spots are gone, we add a layer of protection. Water beads and rolls off a protected surface instead of sitting flat and drying, so new spots form less easily and wash off more easily.

When removal isn’t enough

Most spots come off with removal. If some are etched into the paint, they need machine polishing, which we quote after we see the car. Our paint correction in Elk Grove page explains how that works. We point out any etched areas in good light before quoting, so you can decide whether polishing is worth it for your car. Heavily etched glass may improve but keep some faint marks, and we’ll show you what to expect.

Stopping the next round

A few small changes go a long way. Turn the sprinkler heads near the driveway so they spray the lawn, not the car. Run them when the car is in the garage if you can. Don’t hose the car off on a hot afternoon and leave it to dry. If you wash at home, dry it right away with a clean microfiber towel. Washing early in the morning or in the evening, out of direct sun, gives you more time to dry before spots form.

For the longest-lasting help, a ceramic coating in Elk Grove or a regular maintenance wash catches spots while they’re still fresh. A coating can still spot if hard water dries on it, but those spots come off far more easily.

FAQ

Water Spot Removal questions

Why does only one side of my car have spots?

That’s usually the side facing the sprinklers. The spray lands on one side, dries in the sun and leaves minerals behind.

How much does water spot removal cost?

It’s $100 per hour. Most cars with surface spots take about an hour. Larger vehicles and heavy buildup take longer, and we tell you before we start.

Can you remove spots from my windows?

Yes. We use a remover made for glass. Light spots usually clear well; glass spotted for years may keep faint marks.

What if the spots won’t come off?

They may be etched into the clear coat. Those need machine polishing, which we quote after looking at the car.

Will washing my car at home cause spots?

It can, if the water dries on the car in the sun. Dry it right away with a clean microfiber towel to avoid spots.
