Sacramento dogs ride a lot
Between the American River Parkway, Discovery Park and the green spaces around Land Park and East Sacramento, plenty of local dogs get a car ride most weekends. They come back with fur, dust, dry grass seeds and sometimes river water.
Our long, hot summers make it worse. Heat and sweat help hair stick to fabric, and a dog that rides on the back seat every day can coat it in a week. Spring and fall shedding seasons add another layer on top.
Wet dogs are the hardest case. Hair from a dog that just climbed out of the river mats into the carpet with mud and sand, then dries hard. If that’s your car, mention it when you book so we can plan the right amount of time.
Time and price
Light pet hair is part of a normal interior detail. When there is a lot of it, the extra time is billed at $100 per hour. Most cars take about an hour. A three-row SUV, a minivan or a cargo area that has carried a shedding dog for months can take longer.
We look at the car before we start and tell you about how long we expect, so the total isn’t a surprise. Larger vehicles are slower simply because there is more carpet and more places for hair to hide, including under and between seats.
What to expect
We remove most of the hair. A few strands buried deep in some carpets can hold on. Some fabrics, like velour and certain cargo liners, are very grabby and take extra time. Leather and vinyl seats are the easiest to clean.
If the car also smells like a dog, removing the hair first gives the rest of the cleaning a real chance. Shampoo can reach the fibers instead of a mat of fur, and an odor treatment works better in a clean cabin.
Pet hair removal is worth doing before you sell or trade in a car, too. Buyers and dealers notice hair right away, and it makes an otherwise clean car look neglected.
Where we do the work
We can work in your driveway, at the curb in front of your home, or in an apartment or office lot that allows outside service. We need enough room to open every door and the hatch all the way. Some parking garages don’t allow outside service, so check with your building first.
If your dog rides along every week, regular cleaning keeps the hair from piling up again. Our maintenance plans are an easy way to stay ahead of it. A seat cover or cargo liner helps a lot too, and so does a quick brush of your dog outside before a long ride.
